NCSPRA earns national Mark of Distinction Award

The North Carolina School Public Relations Association (NCSPRA) has earned the 2021 Mark of Distinction Award from the National School Public Relations Association. The award honors NCSPRA as an exemplary chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

The National School Public Relationas Association recognized NCSPRA for its extraordinary efforts to support members during the 2020-2021 school year and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In naming NCSPRA an exemplary chapter, the National School Public Relations Association said, “The judging team was impressed with your efforts to plan and implement a variety of programs in support of the chapter and your members.”

One of the accomplishments that distinguished NCPSRA as an award-winning chapter was a series of School PR Check-ins that NCSPRA offered during the 2020-2021 school year. The check-ins provided ongoing and free professional development to all NCSPRA members as well as to other school PR professionals in North Carolina. The PR check-ins featured insights from leading experts in crisis communication, COVID-19 response, public records requests, diversity training, and many other topics. NCSPRA also hosted a Spring Professional Development Series (SPDS) that was open not only to NCSPRA members but also to school PR pros across the U.S. and Canada. NCSPRA developed the idea of the SPDS and collaborated with the Georgia School Public Relations Association and the South Carolina chapter of the National School Public Relations Association to make the free professional development available to all school PR practitioners. NCSPRA also gave its members access to the resources shared during the PR Check-ins and the Spring Professional Development Series.

Another accomplishment for NCSPRA was the launching of a new podcast called #SCHOOLPR DRIVE TIME. The podcast began in August of 2020 and continues to feature timely conversations that promote the practice of outstanding school public relations. It is available on all leading podcast outlets. The chapter also redesigned its website, which has made it easier to share information with members and other school PR pros around the country.

NCSPRA received the Mark of Distinction Award during NSPRA’s national conference in New Orleans on July 11th.
